Man, the href="http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/teams/page/PHI">Flyers really stormed out to a 4-1 lead in the first period. They were completely owning the Panthers. But then for much of the rest of the game, the Flyers were outplayed. And Vokoun woke up from his sleep and played a heck of a game after the first period. This was the type of game the Flyers would have lost last year. What a difference a year makes.
But the play of the game goes to Antero Niittymaki for keeping the Flyers up 4-3. He dove over and absolutely robbed the Panthers player with his stick with a completely open net behind it.
Speaking of Niittymaki, this brings me to my one problem I've had with John Stevens. I'm not a fan of how he handles the goaltenders. Last year, I thought he bailed on Robert Esche too early (I know that there really isn't anyone else who likes Esche like me). And I understand that you play the hot hand, as I would have given Niitty a string of starts as well, but I thought that the start should have gone to Biron tonight. He looked shaky a little bit the other night, but I think that was just due to the rust from not playing. I hope Biron gets his chance to prove that he's the guy soon.
The Devils lost tonight........
